WATERCOLOUR ARTIST

GARY WAS BORN AND LIVES IN DUCKLINGTON, OXFORDSHIRE. IN 1972 HE JOINED BOEHM OF MALVERN CERAMICS IN WORCESTER, AS A CERAMIC ARTIST PAINTING PORCELAIN STUDIES OF ANIMALS AND BIRDS. HIS WORK ON BIRDS WAS FEATURED ON ANGLIA TELEVISION, AT WOBURN ABBEY WITH THE R.S.P.B, HE LATER BECAME A MEMBER OF THE SOCIETY OF WILDLIFE ARTISTS.

IN 1985 HE MOVED INTO BOOK ILLUSTRATION, AND HIS FIRST BOOK WAS A NEW EDITION OF “WIND IN THE WILLOWS” THAT YEAR ALSO SAW HIM BECOME A FINALIST IN THE ATHENA AWARDS. IN 1989 HE WORKED WITH MOLLIE HARRIS TO PRODUCE THE BOOK “WHERE THE WINDRUSH FLOWS” OTHER BOOKS HE HAS ILLUSTRATED INCLUDE, “WYCHWOOD THE SECRET FOREST” & “THE STRIPLING THAMES”.

IN 1996 HE WAS COMMISSIONED BY ENGLISH HERITAGE TRUST TO PRODUCE A SERIES OF RECONSTRUCTION PAINTINGS OF ROMAN SETTLEMENTS PRIOR TO THE BUILDING OF HADRIAN ’S WALL.
